What I’m Loving, Edition February 2023

Hey, friends! I hope you’re hanging in there through this crazy winter! We’ve had frigid days and then last week it was 80 degrees. In Tennessee. In February. Peter even opened up our pool last week, getting it ready for the summer. We’ve definitely got spring fever.

Here are some of my favorite things from this past month:

Something to Watch

  • If you’re not watching The Chosen, I highly encourage you to start. You can download and watch from the app. We’ve been watching as a family, and I love the way Jesus is portrayed. All of the characters are brought to life in meaningful ways and I’ve truly come to love them even more deeply than I did before.
  • Lost treasures of Egypt on Disney+: Jonah discovered this series recently and has really enjoyed it. We’ve learned all about ancient pharaohs and burial techniques and history and archaeology. If you have older elementary or middle school kids, check out this series. (It might be a little creepy for younger kids, so heads up)
  • Celebrity Special Forces: Y’all. This has been a fun and fascinating watch for our family. Vivienne discovered it, and although there is some language, it’s super fun to see how these “celebrities” fare as they attempt to make it through special forces training.

Something to Read

  • I’ve got two storybooks for the little kids in your life. First up is King Jack and the Dragon. I’m not sure why I love this book so much but it’s a super cute story of friends who pretend they’re knights, and then dragons (aka, their parents) come and drag them home. Jilli loves it almost as much as I do. Ha! The second book is an adoption story called Finding Family in a Faraway Land. This book was written by an adoptive mom and it follows two little girls who were adopted from India. I know most of you aren’t adoptive parents, but this sweet book will give you and your children insight into what families like mine go through when we adopt. And some of the feelings adoptive children might experience. I’m so glad I ordered this one!
  • The Night Road: This was a book club pick in January and follows the story of 3 friends as they experience a tragedy during their senior year of high school. Books don’t often make me cry, but this book brought back some old memories, and the characters were so well-written that they seemed real. The ending was also perfect, which I don’t often say about a book.
  • I’m Glad My Mom Died: Ok, the title is meant to grab you, right? This is a memoir written by Jennette McCurdy (of iCarly fame). I’m obviously too old to have watched the shows she starred in and Brie was sort of on the cusp of being too young when they aired, so I didn’t know much about the author. But this book was fascinating – she really doesn’t hold back. What I loved most about this memoir is that it was a reminder of how you truly never know what someone else is going through. Even when someone’s life looks amazing, they actually might be going through the most horrific things imaginable. It was a good reminder to always be kind and think the best of others.

Something to Listen to

  • Hey It’s the Luskos! I love listening to Levi and Jennie Lusko’s podcast. They recently interviewed the Seeleys, pastors of The Belonging Co in Nashville. We’ve attended special events at The Belonging Co and Brie goes there often too. It was so fun to hear how their ministry in Nashville started.

Something for You

  • These boots: I got these boots for Christmas and I love them so much! They’re super comfortable and on trend without breaking the bank. They’re true to size so order what you normally wear.
  • LMNT watermelon electrolyte drink mix: Peter got me hooked on this electrolyte drink mix. It’s salty with a hint of watermelon and I drink it every single time I ride my echelon. If you’re looking for a little something to add to your bottled water, this might be what you need! It comes in a variety of flavors but watermelon is my personal fave.

That’s it for February! What are you loving this month?
