Why must summer come to an end? Although I love routines, I’m truly not ready for school and all that fall has in store for us. But I’d thought I’d go out on a positive note, so here are my wins of Summer 2022:

Movies!
This was the summer of the blockbuster movies and boy was I glad to be back in the theater. Peter and I saw Top Gun: Maverick when it came out and, just as everyone else has said, it was amazing and wonderful and better than the original. If you haven’t seen it yet, run – don’t walk- to your nearest theater and settle in with a tub of popcorn. You won’t be sorry.
I went with a group of friends in July to see Where the Crawdads Sing. It, too, was really good. I read the book years ago and had sort of forgotten the premise until the book was chosen for our book club (and Brienne reminded me of the storyline). The movie mostly held true to the book but even if you didn’t read it, I think you’ll love the movie!
Exercise!
Yes, you read that correctly. I said exercise. Let me tell you – it’s hard to keep a regular exercise routine during the school year. I already get up at 5:00 to read my Bible and have some quiet time before getting the kids up, so waking any earlier is a no-go for me. And then by the time I get home at 4:45, there is supper to be cooked and kids to be bathed and put to bed. Literally no time for exercise.
But this summer has been glorious! I’ve ridden my echelon, attended CycleBar classes, gone for runs in the great outdoors (when it wasn’t 110 degrees), and struggled on my treadmill when the weather wasn’t cooperative. I don’t know what fall will look like, but exercise was a definite win for summer 2022.
Consistency!
I am nothing if not inconsistent. I’m known for starting things (ahem – chore chart, reading log, video game schedule, etc…) and then not following through with them. But this summer I’ve done so much better! We’ve been doing a read-aloud every weekday and the kids have done a math worksheet each day as well. I can’t believe we actually made it to the end of the summer and we’re still consistently doing these things. I know, I know, for those of you Type A people, this doesn’t seem like much. But it’s definitely a lot for me, so I’m calling it a win for summer 2022.
Reading!
I’ve been a reading machine this summer. I’ve read at least 17 books this summer and most of them have been really good! (More about my favorites in my annual Favorite Books post and giveaway coming in December) I love to read anything – so I’m counting this as another win for summer 2022.
Marvel!
One of my goals for this year was to watch all the Marvel movies (in order) with the kids, and so far, we’ve put a pretty good dent in our list. We recently finished Thor Ragnarok, leaving us with roughly 6 more movies (I think). It’s been fun to watch these with Jonah and Vivienne and I’ve learned a lot about the Marvel Universe.
