Asking Questions and Looking for Answers

Man. The Trinity is hard to understand. Do you agree? Trying to dissect God the Father from God the Son from God the Holy Spirit. Well, it’s a lot to take in. I’m not sure I want to dive into this topic because honestly it brings up more questions than answers but here goes…

Lately I’ve been hearing a lot of people talk about how their relationship is different with each member of the Trinity. At first I was like, “Wait. What?!” It all sounded a little weird and mystical to me. But as I began to  study the Trinity, I found myself understanding a little more clearly.

Some people have a hard time relating to God as Father. Maybe you didn’t have the best relationship with your own dad, or maybe you didn’t even have a dad. Possibly your earthly father was mean or harsh or had addictions. So it might be difficult to accept that God the Father can love you if your own dad didn’t love you well. Or maybe this isn’t your issue.

Other people have trouble relating to Jesus. I mean, who exactly is Jesus to you? Is He an older and wiser brother? Is He a friend? Is He a teacher? Until recently, I never really differentiated between Jesus and the Father.

And then there’s the Holy Spirit. Sometimes people put too much emphasis on the Holy Spirit while others don’t put enough emphasis on Him. According to Scripture, the Holy Spirit has many different roles in our lives: He teaches us and reminds us of what Jesus has already taught (John 14:26); He convicts us of sin (John 16:7-8); He dwells in us (1 Cor 3:16); He gives us power (Acts 1:8) and He guides us (John 16:13). You can find many more roles for the Holy Spirit throughout scripture.

So here are my questions to you.

How is your relationship with God the Father different from your relationship with Jesus? From the Holy Spirit?

Is there a difference in your relationships with the 3 parts of the Trinity?

Which person of the Trinity do you relate most with?

How can you cultivate deeper relationships with the other two?

For me, I tend to lean more toward God the Father. I pray to Him mostly because I see Him as Protector and Master of my life plans. I figure if I need help, He’s the One who’s going to make it happen. Is this right? I have no idea. And is there even a right or wrong answer here? Again. No idea.

Look, I seriously want to know your thoughts on this. So message me or comment below with your thoughts or questions. Let’s learn together from each other!

  1. What a great thought provoking perspective! Never really stopped to think about it, but I tend to myself leaning towards Jesus. Maybe it’s because I can picture Him as a “real person” who walked on the same earth that I live on and love to dive deep into the meanings of His parables.
