Hey, friends! Today I want to give a quick update on our India Adoption. If this is the first you’ve heard about the Terrebonnes adopting a child from India, you can read all about our decision here.
Things are progressing pretty quickly. If I think about it a lot, I can get a little stressed as I try to figure out how to navigate my job, Peter’s school, and traveling to India. So I’m trying not to think about it a lot. Ha!
We received word a couple weeks ago that our adoption packet was submitted to CARA, which is the centralized adoption hub in India. We were expecting CARA approval to take several weeks but in fact it only took a few days for them to approve our adoption petition! Peter and I were also recently fingerprinted for immigration and we are awaiting pre-approval, which should happen within the month.
So now our agency in Alabama, Children of the World, has begun looking for a child to match us with. From what we have been told, this part of the adoption process can be grueling. Basically, our case worker scrolls through the CARA website every day looking for a child that matches our criteria, but often CARA chooses not to add any children to the website. It can be days or even weeks before new children are added so we understand that we might be waiting a long time for a match to take place. Honestly we have no timeline for this part of the process. We could be matched tomorrow or we could be matched in 6 months.
So for now, we are waiting on a couple things: Our pre-approval from immigration and for our family to be matched with a child. Once we are matched, more paperwork will need to be completed on our end and we will then begin the waiting process for adoption court dates in India.
It feels like things are progressing quickly on one hand, but slowly on another. Please continue to pray with us:
- that God would make known to us the child we are supposed to have (Basically, pray that I would not impulsively choose the first child presented to us if that child is not the one He has chosen for our family.)
- that we would trust God’s timing in the process
Thank you all for joining us on this journey!
Praying with you!
Thank you!
